BIOGRAPHY FOR FLYERS (SHORT VERSION)
Born in Mozambique, raised in Luxembourg, Carlos Fernandes aka Chich is part of the electronic music scene for over 20 years now, either by DJing worldwide, by his studio productions or even, for being, over the years, one of the main techno faces in Luxembourg , promoting events and the scene in general since 1989.
In the studio he has produced solo, and also with some great friends like Danny Casseau, Vic Miranda, Tuttle or A.Paul, releasing tracks on labels such as Naked Lunch, Ekho Port, TK Records, Subsounds, and on his own Black Pitch Music (with Danny Casseau) and more recently Modulhertz (with DJ Tuttle).
His experience and also his lifetime friendship with Naked Lunch’s founder A.Paul, led him to become part of the Naked Lunch project, after an invitation in 2013. Besides being a resident DJ at the Naked Lunch label nights, he also plays a key role in the artist management of the events.
As far as he’s concerned, 2014 will be a great year for techno, and Chich will carry on with his mission, keeping the underground alive !
BIOGRAPHY FOR PRESS (FULL VERSION)
Carlos Fernandes aka DJ Chich is a Portuguese DJ and producer from Luxembourg. He was born in 1973 in Lourenco Marquez, Mozambique.
From the early age, he was fascinated with synthesized sounds and electronic music. He had his first contact with the scene in the mid-eighties during the new-wave movement while listening to bands like Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Front 242, U2 and so on.
In 1989, at the age of fifteen, he got more and more interested in DJing and mixing and started to organize parties in the South of Luxembourg (Terre Rouge Metropole) with his friends Ionic and Flower. In the early nineties, Chich organized the first underground acid-house party in Luxembourg at the old butchery in Esch/Alzette. He became the pioneer of the techno movement in Luxembourg. During 1993 and 1994, he got in contact with lots of international known DJ’s and started to organize parties with them in Luxembourg-City. This is where his career really began. He invited DJ’s from Belgium like the famous Danny Casseau, ZZino, Marco Bailey, Tomaz, Acid Kirk and DJ Ghost.
In 1995, Chich got more and more influenced by Detroit minimal-techno and started to bring this techno-style to Luxembourg. Chich became really good friends with Danny Casseau and in 1997 Danny invited him to produce a first record called “Argonic vs DJ Chich”, that was released on the label Subsounds. Since then, everything went really fast. His first record was a big hit and sold over 7000 copies all over the world. It was even released on the famous compilation “Transcore Version 6.0” with famous DJ’s like Surgeon, Space Djz, Umek and many more. People still search for this record today!
His second track with Danny Casseau was on Danny’s album (Trax-X – Warping) that was released on Re-load, one of the most famous Techno Labels at the time. He was also the brain behind the “Tresor label nights” in Luxembourg, with famous resident DJ’s from the “Tresor-club” in Berlin, and the really “big” underground parties in Luxembourg-City with DJ’s from Detroit and New York such as Damon Wild, Claude Young to name a few. Later on he became resident DJ and promoter of one of the most famous club in Luxembourg “Café de la Gare” where he booked DJ’s like Jeff Mills, DJ Bone, Adam Beyer, The Advent, Luke Slater, Space DJz, Dave Clarke. He also was one of the resident DJ’s of the club “L’usine”, one of the biggest clubs in the east of France. .. .. Today, after several years of producing for numerous labels
Later, DJ Chich and his friend Danny Casseau decided that it was time to found their own label. Music has always been the main motivation in their life. Music is life, life is music. The label was a tool to express their visions of life. The musical output was not be subject to hype or fame, but to give a reflection of what it is really about, music is life, life is music. More recently, and while on his new location in France, he founds his new label Modulhertz with french producer Tuttle.
